The purpose of this training is to provide attorneys and practitioners with foundational knowledge about federal immigration law and enforcement patterns as established by the current administration. There will be an emphasis on privacy concerns and best-practice strategies. The training will also cover the California’s Truth Act and Values Act, and negotiation tactics along with vehicles for immigration post-conviction relief in California criminal courts.”
Keuren Parra Moreno is an attorney at the Stanislaus County Public Defender’s office. She joined the Public Defender’s office as a misdemeanor and felony line deputy in February of 2021 and transitioned into developing and running the office’s first immigration unit in March of 2024. Her prior experiences include working at the immigration non-profit SIREN, business immigration firm Fragomen, and a private immigration law firm. She was co-counsel and argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in the case Granados v. Garland (2021) 992 F.3d 755; that resulted in a favorable opinion regarding asylum law.
