Description

Consumer debt collection cases overlap with family law, immigration, housing, and many other case types, and can be a key part of resolving a client’s legal issues. For example, clients who have a wage garnishment may struggle to pay rent, clients who have been trafficked or otherwise subject to abuse may have coerced debt, and older adults seeking end-of-life planning may have defrauded or tricked into signing documents. Join two debt collection experts, Barak Berlin and Mika Wilbur, to get an overview of debt collection issues faced by low-income consumers, including how to issue spot, address immediate issues, and refer for additional assistance.

Presenters: Barak Berlin, Inland Counties Legal Services Mika Wilbur, Legal Aid Society of San Diego
