IOLTA-Funded Organizations

In California, there are over 100 civil legal nonprofits that receive funding from the State Bar of California. 

The Legislature, in creating California Business and Professions Code §6210, set up a funding mechanism using Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) to fund grants to “expand the availability and improve the quality of existing free legal services in civil matters to indigent persons, and to initiate new programs that will provide services to them.”  

In the statute, the legislature also defined the two major types of organizations that would be eligible for those funds – those that primarily provide direct legal services, and those that primarily support the larger system, including direct services providers. Direct services organizations are “Qualified Legal Services Projects” (QLSPs) under B&P §6213(a)(1-2), while supportive organizations are “Qualified Support Centers” under B&P §6213(b). 

Below is a list of those organizations that receive IOLTA grants in 2026. There are many legal nonprofits in California offering similar services, so this list is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all civil nonprofits – only those that receive IOLTA grants this year.
