The Daily Pilot started off in 1907 and has been known as Newport News, Newport Harbor Pilot, the Orange Coast Daily Pilot and the Newport Beach-Costa Mesa Pilot. The Pilot, with a circulation of about 30,000, won best community newspaper in the state by the California Newspaper Publishers Association in 2004.
