The Opportunity

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Development Manager to join our Development Department at Law Foundation. The Development Department advances the mission and impact of the organization through private philanthropy—including foundation, corporate, donor, and special event support—along with engagement and communications.

The Development Manager focuses primarily on foundation grants management (70%) and provides streamlined communications support (30%). This role is essential to securing more than $1.5 million (and growing) annually in foundation grants and strengthening the organization’s visibility with funders, partners, and the community.

What You’ll Do

As a Development Manager, Grants & Communication, you will:

Foundation Grants

  • Draft and submit case statements, proposals, and reports that clearly articulate the Law Foundation’s work, impact, and funding needs, closely following foundation guidelines and preferences.
  • Coordinate with program staff to gather necessary information and utilize their expertise to develop grant proposals that are technically sound and feasible.
  • Work closely with colleagues, tracking impact metrics to set and measure goals, and with finance to prepare and update grant budgets.
  • Build strong relationships with grant-making organizations, stakeholders, and community partners, such as attending foundation meetings, touchpoints outside of grant requirements, and joint marketing.
  • Research and identify funding opportunities from private foundations that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Actively track key dates and data including grant submission deadlines, reporting dates, planned ask amounts and awards, tasks, and touchpoints.
  • Regular tracking of foundation revenue, pledges, and pipeline to forecast performance and review of all metrics to evaluate success.

Communications

  • Plan and execute a streamlined communications strategy and calendar. Manage channels, which currently include social media, e-mail, print, mail, and videos.
  • Draft content and simple design for inspirational stories of impact; testimonials from program participants, supporters and volunteers; and for awareness months/weeks (e.g. Hispanic Heritage Month).
  • Lead project management for the annual report and videography for events and communications, working closely with videography contractors.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years in nonprofit grants management (or transferable experience).
  • Additional communications experience in a business or nonprofit setting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with grants management and donor CRM systems (e.g. Instrumentl, Bloomerang) or similar.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with ability to craft persuasive narratives.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative and able to listen actively, working toward positive outcomes across teams.
  • Goal-oriented oriented, proactive, and adaptable problem-solver.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar, with openness to learning new tools.
  • Reliable transportation for offsite events; ability to lift up to 30lbs
  • Comfort working at a computer for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work on occasional evenings and weekends, especially during major events.
