Join an organization dedicated to improving our community through programs that provide equal access to legal services. The Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) of The Bar Association of San Francisco currently has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Domestic Violence Staff Attorney.
JDC is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and indigent San Francisco residents through staff and volunteer based services. Each year, JDC staff works with over 1,900 volunteer attorneys, interpreters, law students and college students to serve nearly 8,500 indigent clients. JDC’s holistic advocacy approach seeks to address the social service needs of clients in addition to their legal needs.
About the Job:
The Domestic Violence Attorney will provide brief services, advice and legal representation to survivors of domestic violence in their family law matters before the San Francisco Unified Family Court. The attorney may also staff legal clinics providing brief services at San Francisco shelters. Additionally, the attorney will work closely with JDC staff on on-going reassessment and adjustment of project design and delivery of services.
The successful candidate will have the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Licensed member of the California State Bar in good standing
Three years minimum family law litigation experience
Experience working with survivors of trauma and/or low-income communities is preferred
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Excellent oral, written, and client service skills
Able to effectively interact with low-income clients, judges and court staff, co-workers, and staff at other nonprofits
Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
