Description

This webinar will teach attendees about the legal process the Department of Education must undertake in order to comply with President Biden’s Executive Order to immediately review, rescind, and replace recent Title IX Regulations implemented under former President Trump. Attendees will receive information about the scope of the problem of sexual assault and harassment in higher education, an overview of former and existing Title IX protections against such discrimination, and a detailed review of the administrative procedure involved in proposing and issuing new regulations. Experts from the California Women’s Law Center and Equal Rights Advocates will identify changes they hope to see made to the existing rules, and make predictions of what changes they expect the Biden administration to make. Finally, attendees will learn about the ways in which California law has bolstered protections for student survivors of sex-based discrimination, even while these protections had been eroded under federal law.
