800 Restraining Orders: Leveraging Collaboration to Serve Domestic Violence Victims in Court
Date training recorded: May 18, 2017
Trainer(s): Adam Dodge, Leticia Ambriz
Sponsoring Organization(s): Community Services Programs, Inc., Laura’s House
Domestic Violence victims are frequently unrepresented, unprepared and alone for their restraining order hearings. For the victim, this results in fear, confusion, unpreparedness, intimidation, no-showing at court and vulnerability. For the court, this results in unnecessary continuances, inefficient hearings, congested calendars and re-explanation of the legal process to victims. This webinar will explore 1) how onsite court legal services and community based agencies can collaborate to ensure victims are prepared and supported at these hearings and 2) highlight a partnership between CSP and Laura’s House that serves 800+ restraining order clients annually using this model.
