University of California, Berkeley student and long-time California resident, Luis Mora, has been in the custody of ICE since December 30, 2017. The 20-year-old Colombia native immigrated to the United States legally as a child but was recently stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Southern California. They found that his visa was currently out of date. Now Mora is being represented by East Bay Community Law Center attorney, Prerna Lal, and has been publicly advocated for from multiple high-ranking California officials, including Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Lal continues to work closely with Mora and monitor his situation while he remains detained. Lal has been kept in contact with Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin, Barbara Lee, and Dianne Feinstein, to help get Mora released from ICE custody.
