“Without LSC and it’s grantees, I can only imagine what would have happened to so many more families that were able to stay in their homes because of the representation from our grantees.” This is what Legal Services Corporation Chair John Levi lamented in a recent interview on the White House’s plan to scrap funding for the LSC.
With so many programs on the chopping block for the White House’s newly proposed budget plan, it is difficult to remain optimistic about the future of legal aid funding in the United States. Still, LAAC remains vigilant: in California we are advocating for legal aid every day and working to increase the state funding for legal aid to $30 million for next year’s budget. We will continue to fight for our members and legal aid at large until we have equal access to justice for all in California.
