On Monday, March 14. Carol Sobel, from the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and several other private firms, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles for endangering homeless people.
The lawsuit requires the court to address the city’s regular practice of wrongfully arresting the homeless population, seizing and destroying their few belongings and releasing them into the cold without protection.
The lawsuit also requests the court to order the city to replace homeless people’s blankets, tents, medication and important documents seized for any reason and seeks a temporary restraining order against the city’s enforcement practices.
