Pacific Skies Estates tenants allege management’s eviction threats

Residents at Pacific Skies Estates say that the property management threatened to take away relocation packages and quickly evict tenants that publicly go against plans to renovate the park, which means they have to move out.

“Some of the Pacific Skies Estates tenants’ unease probably stems from the fact that the relocation assistance offered is contingent upon cooperating with the park’s renovation plans. It is not entirely clear what the park means by cooperation, and I have asked to have that clarified for the residents. If the park’s intent is for tenants to waive their first amendment and public participation rights, that would be a deal breaker for many. Ultimately the relocation package is just an offer, like any landlord would make a tenant in lieu of litigation, and it will be up to the tenants whether they want to accept, make a counterproposal, or decline it entirely. My role is to help the tenants make an informed decision and support them in dealing with the legal consequences of whichever choice they make,” said Shirley Gibson with Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County.
