Belmont-Redwood Shores School District settled a lawsuit by a former student who says that district officials acted negligently by allowing a sexual predator to inside Belmont middle school for two decades, even after reports of sexual harassment in 1996, 2001, and 2005.

Bill Grimm, senior attorney for the National Center for Youth Law, said the evidence showed a “pretty egregious” failure by the district to act on red flags about Edwards. “Those red flags should have resulted in the agency filing the appropriate reports with [Child Protective Services] or with the police.”
