Elizabeth Kristen, director of Fair Play for Girls in Sports at Legal Aid Society-Employment Law Center (LAS-ELC), spoke in a presentation entitled “Ollier v. Sweetwater Union High School District and Title IX.” Kristen spoke about the health, achievement, and socioeconomic benefits for girls from participating in sports.

She and Cacilia Kim, special counsel at LAS-ELC, were named as California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year by California Lawyer for their landmark victory in that case. Kristen noted that the decision was distinctive for recognizing anti-retaliation protections and opened the door for Title IX in K-12 contexts, when similar cases have been in colleges.
