Is Your Community Playing Fair? CA’s Fair Play Act (AB 2404) and Gender Discrimination in Youth Sports

Oct 24, 2019
Girls who play sports as youth benefit in many ways: they perform better in school, are more likely to earn higher wages, and have better health outcomes. California enacted the Fair Play in Community Sports Act (“Fair Play Act” or AB 2404) almost 20 years ago, requiring local community youth sports programs to provide equal opportunities, treatment and benefits to girls and boys in their competitive athletic programs. Despite this, girls’ sports at the local youth level still continue to face significant discrimination. This webinar will explore the Fair Play Act and its impact, and will provide a brief primer on the law the Act is based on, Title IX—which celebrated its 47th anniversary in June. Watch to learn about gender-based inequities in your local sports program or at your school and potential ways to address such inequities!
