Salary Range (Depending on Experience):

Clients’ Rights Advocate 1: $58,383 – $78,234

Clients’ Rights Advocate 2: $63,063 – $84,513

Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy

Disability Rights California contracts with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), State of California, to provide clients’ rights advocacy services for clients of each of the state’s 21 regional centers.  This contract with DDS funds the Clients’ Rights Advocate (CRA) position.



This Statewide Clients’ Rights Advocate position will advocate for services and supports for regional center clients statewide and provide advocacy support for OCRA local offices as needed.  The Statewide Clients’ Rights Advocate also advocates for people with developmental disabilities who live in or who are at risk of living in institutions or other restrictive settings, with an emphasis on the right of people to receive services and supports in the least restrictive environment.



Education and Experience

Juris Doctor degree (JD) or Master’s degree (MA or MS)

– Two or more years’ experience advocating for the rights of persons with developmental disabilities, or experience in public service law such as Special Education or Social Security in a paid or volunteer position.

– Experience working with and/or sensitivity to persons with disabilities.

– Experience working with and/or sensitivity to persons from multi-ethnic communities.

– Able to communicate fluently and write effectively in Spanish or an Asian language, or able to communicate using American Sign Language.


Licenses / Certificates

Eligibility for Clients’ Rights Advocate 2 requires membership in the California State Bar, or eligibility to practice under the Registered Legal Services Attorney Program [admitted to practice in another state and eligible to practice in California for three (3) years; requires admittance to the California Bar within three (3) years.]
