Staff Attorney – Education Law Advocacy Program

SDVLP is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney for our Education Law Advocacy Program. The Staff Attorney provides legal advocacy for foster youth in the areas of special education, school discipline, and enrollment. The Staff Attorney will also recruit, train, and mentor attorney volunteers to assist in providing legal services to clients.

Minimum qualifications include: admission to practice law in California, minimum of two years of experience as an attorney, a valid CA driver license, familiarity with the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and California State laws and regulations governing special education and student rights in school discipline proceedings. Experience in education law and prior work with at-risk and disabled youth, particularly those in the dependency care system, is preferred. Salary range is $75,000 – $80,000 DOE. Medical, dental, vision, 401(K), and sick, annual leave, and holiday pay provided. SDVLP is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required unless a legal exemption applies. The position will be based at SDVLP’s main office in downtown San Diego and will require occasional travel to attend school meetings in San Diego County.
