Staff Attorney

Office: Sacramento, CA

California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation seeks a Staff Attorney to join the Labor & Civil Rights Litigation Unit

The agricultural industry is plagued by some of the worst working conditions in California. The Labor & Civil Rights Litigation Unit aggressively targets the employers responsible for these conditions, representing workers in cases involving: wage theft; violation of workplace safety standards; sexual assault and harassment in the workplace; discrimination and retaliation; and pesticide exposure.

Unique among legal aid organizations CRLAF represent clients regardless of their immigration status and we focus on class action cases that can help hundreds of workers at a time. Since CRLAF’s founding, we have recovered millions of dollars in compensation for exploited workers and our lawsuits have led to workplace-wide reforms.

The Staff Attorney will play a critical role in the continued development and implementation this project, including advocacy and litigation on behalf of workers, community education and leadership development, as well as collaboration with other farm worker advocates and governmental and nonprofit agencies.

The Staff Attorney will be responsible for working with CRLAF’s Litigation Unit to develop new cases and represent clients in existing cases ranging from class action impact litigation to individual representation and other duties as assigned. CRLAF represents clients throughout California, although most cases are based in the Central, Salinas, and Santa Maria Valleys.
