TENANTS= RIGHTS PROJECT
Affordable Housing Advocates (AAHA@) is a qualified legal services project providing free legal services to low income tenants in housing and landlord-tenant matters. We seek a capable and committed part-time or contract attorney for our Tenants= Rights Project (TRP).
The attorney will be responsible for intake and representation of tenants in unlawful detainer cases and other landlord-tenant and housing matters. Duties include determining eligibility of applicants; setting and conducting intake and follow up appointments; opening and maintaining related hard and efiles, including calendars, diary sheets and ticklers; correspondence; case investigation; legal research and writing; discovery; preparation, service and filing of pleadings; conducting negotiations; drafting related settlement documents; and preparing for and making court appearances. Duties may include outreach and education, legislative advocacy and assistance with impact litigation.
The attorney will be supervised by the Director and Supervising Attorney and may supervise law clerks and volunteers. The position is part-time.
Qualifications: Member in good standing of the California State Bar and United States District Court, Southern District of California. Ability to work independently and with others. Excellent organizational skills and work ethic. Computer proficiency. Prefer unlawful detainer or civil litigation experience. Bi-lingual (English-Spanish), preferred.
Compensation: Pay commensurate with experience and Spanish fluency. Benefits.
