Senior Grants Accountant

The Sr. Accountant role has functional oversight over grants accounting, post-award administration, financial accounting and audit preparedness. Additionally, this role is instrumental in tracking grant oversight key performance metrics and associated reporting to senior leadership. This position is responsible for assisting in the preparation of monthly grant/contract billings to federal, non-federal and private grantors and ensuring proper compliance with all GAAP, grant/contract standards and guidelines. This role assists with payroll allocations, vendor disbursements and account analysis. This position exercises independent judgment and discretion and is responsible for making recommendations to improve grant reporting procedures and compliance and other accounting procedures. This position also supports the organization and Controller in all audit processes, while ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting processes and procedures. This position is not covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration; or a combination of education and experience
  • 4 to 5 years’ experience in nonprofit grant accounting
  • Excellent working knowledge of nonprofit accounting including revenue recognition and donor restrictions


Our Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Recent experience with modern accounting systems, preferably cloud based
  • Knowledge and experience with accounting for grants, contracts, budgeting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proven analytical skills with direct experience regarding Financial statements is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of the Payroll cycle – highly desirable
  • Knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable cycles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills conducive to the supporting of multiple programs with various needs
