The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) is the frontline law firm for low-income people in Los Angeles and is currently accepting applications for the position of Pro Bono Training Associate to assist with the Pro Bono Training Institute project and www.pbtraining.org. Every year, LAFLA helps more than 100,000 people in civil legal matters by providing direct legal representation and other legal assistance for low-income people across the Greater Los Angeles region. The Pro Bono Training Institute (PBTI) is an innovative project developed by LAFLA, OneJustice, and Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA). The goal of the Pro Bono Training Institute is to create a centralized and more efficient statewide pro bono delivery system and to expand overall pro bono in the state by increasing pro bono access to trainings, reducing the creation of duplicative trainings, and facilitating easier recruitment and support of private sector attorneys. PBTI collaborates with Legal Service Organizations experts (LSOs) in California to develop online pro bono trainings on pbtraining.org and encourages its partners to use trainings to promote pro bono work. The Pro Bono Training Associate will work with the Pro Bono staff to develop online trainings for pro bono attorneys and volunteers and specifically focus on improving visual aids designed for learning. The Associate will also work to support the overall PBTI operations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Work closely with the Pro Bono Training Institute leadership team to develop efficient systems and protocols for the Pro Bono Training Institute;
- Develop and design online PowerPoint trainings, templates, manuals, and resource materials on training topics, taking into account recent innovations in adult learning techniques and technology innovations; and
- Coordinate expert trainers from the legal community to develop poverty law trainings and resources on pbtraining.org with input and direction from the Pro Bono Leadership Team.
- Bachelors or Associates degree, and at least 2-3 years of relevant work experience required;
- Background or experience in visual communication, graphic design, or adult learning;
- Previous experience working with low-income and/or underserved communities preferred;
- Enthusiasm for innovation and expansion of social or legal services for low-income Californians;
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff at all levels of the Foundation;
- Demonstrated experience as a self-starter, with a history of independently managing multiple projects;
- Excellent design, organizational, and administrative skills;
- Computer literate; knowledgeable with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel;
- Have basic technical knowledge of website development and with help of staff, be able to understand technology and systems in connection with an online training program; and
- Knowledge of Adobe presenter preferred.
