Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles. We are looking for extraordinary people to help us end homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people experiencing homelessness, people living with HIV/AIDS, people with disabilities, and homeless veterans.

Position Description: ICLC seeks a dynamic and talented, full-time Paralegal to join our new Bringing Families Home Project. The Paralegal will work with a team that is serving clients who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness and receiving child welfare services. Working in partnership with homeless services, other community service providers, and the project funder, this position will provide paralegal support to attorneys who are providing holistic legal services to tackle barriers to our clients becoming and staying housed and related barriers that impact family stability. This focus on providing housing stability and related legal services to vulnerable families fits perfectly with the question that ICLC asks for all of our clients: “What is the pathway to long-term stable housing?”

Responsibilities:

  • Administer a “total legal health checkup” assessment tool to identify potential clients’ legal issues and evaluate how we can best assist.
  • Request records and other documents.
  • Prepare legal documents for hearings and other advocacy efforts.
  • Other tasks as needed to support lawyers’ efforts to provide holistic legal services, across a wide-array of legal areas, to tackle barriers to housing for our clients.
  • Work closely with ICLC clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with funder, legal services partner, and Bringing Families Home homeless prevention contractors.
  • Conduct monthly in-person legal intake clinics, and participate in other community outreach events.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings, and provide other administrative assistance as needed.
  • Work closely with pro bono counsel to expand the volume of services ICLC can provide.
  • Help develop and launch a newly funded project.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hiring Criteria: Commitment to ICLC’s mission. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong work ethic. Organized and detail oriented. Ability to use good judgment, multitask, and meet deadlines. Ability to learn and utilize databases, software, and case management systems. Excellent customer service skills. Must be a certified paralegal or have a bachelor’s degree. Must have a reliable form of transportation to reach courthouses, partners, and clients across Los Angeles County.

Compensation: Pay range is $24.04 to $37.45 hourly, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits, including two weeks of vacation per year, along with additional days off, paid sick time, health insurance, 401k, flexible spending plan, and more.

How to Apply: To apply, please upload your resume and a cover letter detailing interest in the position directly at www.innercitylaw.org/join-our-team. Cover letters and resumes are reviewed upon receipt.
