Intake and Assessment Paralegal

(Full-Time Position)


Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm in Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles. We are looking for extraordinary people to help us end homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people experiencing homelessness, people living with HIV/AIDS, people with disabilities, and homeless veterans.


Position Description: ICLC seeks a highly-organized and motivated Paralegal to support the Tenant Defense Project (TDP) team and its growing eviction defense work. This position will ensure the smooth operation of TDP’s client assessment and placement by streamlining and managing key activities, including:

  • Handling pre-eviction consultations and tenant education for TDP referrals
  • Interviewing, counseling, and providing limited legal services to clients under the direct supervision of a licensed attorney
  • Preparing initial filings under the supervision of an attorney, including general denials and fee waiversfor unlawful detainer (eviction) cases
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of a system for efficient, speedy, and timely client screening and referral
  • Collecting and inputting comprehensive data in ICLC’s case management system
  • Traveling to sites periodically to participate in clinics and meet with clients
  • Participating in community outreach projects and events
  • Performing other duties as assigned


Hiring Criteria: Commitment to the mission of the organization and comfortable working with all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. A minimum of two years housing/eviction defense experience. Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with the general public. Ability to balance multiple tasks and duties with competing priorities. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, including meticulous notetaking and documentation skills to support client services. Self-motivated, willing to learn, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to exercise sound independent judgment. Written and oral Spanish language proficiency required for this position.


Compensation: Hourly compensation ranges from $24.04 to $32.00 depending on experience. Excellent benefits.
