Elder Law and Disability Rights Center, a non-profit law firm (ELDR), seeks a full-time staff attorney to join its team. The right person is passionate about closing the justice gap though free and low-cost legal services, excited to join a small and growing organization, and prepared to work both independently and as part of a team.
Organizational Background: In its first three years, ELDR successfully litigated multiple cases in Federal Court that changed the landscape of Orange County for the unsheltered community and those at risk of homelessness. We work collaboratively with cities towards permanent solutions including housing, transitional options, and emergency shelters. Job Summary: ELDR seeks a full-time attorney with a demonstrated commitment to social justice and interest in the representation of people who could not otherwise access attorneys. The attorney will work primarily for people experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness. Duties will include citation defense, traffic related defense, advocacy, oversight and enforcement of a settlement with Orange County (focused on standards of care at shelter sites), and investigating access to benefits. Attorney will participate in ongoing litigation. ELDR takes a trauma-informed approach to representation and all team members work collaboratively. Willingness to meet clients where they are will be required. PPE will be provided.

Essential Job Skills and Abilities Required:
- Juris Doctor degree with active California Bar membership (2 years litigation preferred but not required);
- Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication;
- Ability to work well under pressure and collaborate with partner organizations;
- Experience with trauma-informed services and/or demonstrated commitment to learn;
- Experience working with people who have disabilities or are experiencing homelessness;
- Commitment to social justice and the mission of ELDR.
