Position Summary

The Education Equity Manager reports directly to the Policy Director to support advocacy that elevates education issues in the AANHPI community. The Education Equity Manager will be charged with managing the education equity program including ongoing analysis of the landscape, policy and advocacy initiatives, program development, coalition and partnership building and external relations.

Duties and Responsibilities

20% Supervise unit staff (inclusive of performance management) leading local efforts on education equity, advocacy, trainings, and outreach.
20% Partner with our coalitions to design and implement strategic campaigns focused on education equity for the most vulnerable including college readiness and equal opportunity, access to public higher education, increased resources and attention to AANHPI communities, and increased support of EL students.
30% Lead in the development and maintenance of relationships, partnerships, and coalitions. Build the coalition membership base through respectful and inclusive relationship building. Strengthen coalition infrastructure and decision-making with educational institutions by establishing structured engagement through processes and procedures, roles and responsibilities.
10% Develop and execute communications and media strategies that advance education equity and promote equal opportunity and access to public higher education.
10% Analyze and interpret the impact of education, budget policies, and proposals on California students and their access to public higher education, with the support of the policy team by review of policies at the state and local level.
5% Work with Policy Director and development staff to fundraise for education equity work and support in the management of relevant grants
5% Other Duties as Assigned

 

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in related field of study;

Minimum 4 years of experience with public policy organizing and advocacy

Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing social justice and racial justice progress for the highest-need communities;
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of education equity issues;
  • Ability to build multiracial coalitions and to establish and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills, including experience engaging with community organizations and community members on public policy issues and with translating technical analyses into compelling advocacy messages especially preferred;
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work product on a consistent, reliable basis in a fast-paced work environment with ambitious goals;
  • Experience leading and managing projects that are strategic in nature and scope;
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to juggle and manage numerous projects simultaneously, and to execute projects on-time and on budget;
  • Passionate, creative, self-directed and motivated with the ability to work independently;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Experience working with media and/or social media tools a plus;
  • Experience in grant writing and management is a plus;
  • Graphic design
  • Bilingual is a plus

Working Conditions

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines;
  • Occasional nights and weekend shifts may be required;
  • Occasional travel may be required
