SALARY RANGE (Depending on Experience): $17.90 – $23.99 hourly

Disability Rights California (DRC) is a statewide, non-profit legal organization dedicated to advancing the rights of Californians with disabilities to live with autonomy, dignity, and respect in a barrier-free, inclusive, and diverse world that values each individual and their voice.  The Legal Advocacy Unit (LAU) is DRC’s core Protection & Advocacy legal program, tasked with fulfilling our federal mandate to defend the rights of people with disabilities in California.

 

Office of Clients’ Rights Advocate (OCRA)

The Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy (OCRA) is part of DRC. The California Department of Developmental Services funds OCRA through a contract. OCRA has been providing advocacy services to regional center consumers, their families, and interested community members since 1999. OCRA provides legal services to consumers of all 21 regional centers throughout California.

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The ACRA supports the Clients’ Rights Advocate providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the office and by providing basic information and advice to callers. The ACRA serves as the first person to hear about a regional center client’s issue when they call for help. The position requires basic understanding of general areas of disability rights and services necessary to gather sufficient intake information and screen calls. The position provides many opportunities such as helping shape the work within a tight team, engaging with consumer populations from diverse cultural backgrounds and providing outreach support to vulnerable communities.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 1-2 years related experience and/or training; (Ex: Admin Asst 1, ACRA)
